ಕುಮಟಾ ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತ ಅಕ್ರಮ ಮರಳು ದಂಧೆ : ಸೇತುವೆಗೂ ಅಪಾಯ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ

ಕುಮಟಾ: ತಾಲೂಕಿನಾದ್ಯಂತ ಅಕ್ರಮ ಮರಳುಗಾರಿಕೆ ಮಿತಿ ಮೀರಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಮರಳು ದಂಧೆಕೋರರು ಅಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ ಪಕ್ಕದ ತಾಲೂಕು ಹಾಗೂ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳಿಗೂ ಸಾಗಾಟ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಬೆಳಕಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಈ ಕಳ್ಳ ದಂಧೆಕೋರರಿಂದಾಗಿ ನದಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಸೇತುವೆಗಳಿಗೂ ಅಪಾಯ ಉಂಟಾಗುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ ಇದೆ.

ರಾತ್ರಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ ನದಿಯಿಂದ ಮರಳು ತೆಗೆಯುವ ದಂಧೆಕೋರರು, ಕೆಲ ನಿರ್ಜನ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಸ್ತಾನು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಲಾರಿಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ರಾತ್ರಿವೇಳೆ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ತಾಲೂಕು ಹಾಗೂ ಪಕ್ಕ ಗೋವಾ ರಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೂ ಮರಳು ಸಾಗಾಟ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಕುಮಟಾ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಹೆಗಡೆ,ಕೋಡ್ಕಣಿ,ಕತಗಾಲ,ದಿವಗಿ,ಮಣಕೋಣ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮರಳು ದಂಧೆ ಜೋರಾಗಿದೆ‌.

ಅಘನಾಶಿನಿ ನದಿಗೆ ಅಡ್ಡಲಾಗಿ ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಕೊಂಕಣ ರೈಲ್ವೆ ಸೇತುವೆ ಹಾಗೂ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿ ಸೇತುವೆಗಳು ಹಾದುಹೋಗಿದೆ. ಬಹುತೇಕವಾಗಿ ಈ ಮರಳು ದಂಧೆಗಳು ಈ ಸೇತುವೆಯ ಆಸುಪಾಸಿನಲ್ಲೆ ತೆಗೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ‌. ಇದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ನದೀತಟದ ಹಲವು ಭಾಗಗಳು ದಿನೇದಿನೇ ಖಾಲಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಇದೆ ರೀತಿ ಮುಂದುವರೆದಲ್ಲಿ ನದಿ ತಟದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ನಿವಾಸಿಗಳ ತೋಟ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ವಾಸದ ಮನೆಗಳಿಗೂ ಅಪಾಯವಾಗುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ ಇದೆ‌. ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಮರಳು ತೆಗೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಕೆಲ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ರೈತರ ಜಮೀನುಗಳನ್ನ ನದಿ ಸೇರುವಂತಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಇದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ನದಿ ಪಾತ್ರದ ನಿವಾಸಿಗಳು ಆತಂಕಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಗಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಮರಳು ದಂಧೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸ್ಥಳಿಯ ನಿವಾಸಿಗಳೇನಾದರೂ ವಿರೋಧ ಮಾಡಲು ಮುಂದಾದರೆ ಮರಳು ದಂಧೆಕೋರರು ಬೆದರಿಕೆ ಹಾಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎನ್ನುವ ಆರೋಪ ಸಹ ಕೇಳಿ ಬರುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಗ್ರಾಮಸ್ಥರು ಅಕ್ರಮ ಮರಳು ದಂಧೆಕೋರರ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ದೂರು ನೀಡಲು ಸಹ ಹಿಂಜರಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎನ್ನಲಾಗಿದೆ.  ಈ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ತಕ್ಷಣ ಕುಮಟಾ ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಅಕ್ರಮ ಮರಳು ದಂಧೆಯನ್ನ ಪತ್ತೆಹಚ್ಚಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಆಗಬಹುದಾದ ಅಪಾಯವನ್ನ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಬೇಕಿದೆ‌.

Illegal Sand Mining Around Kumta: Potential Threat to Bridges
Kumta: Illegal sand mining has been increasing across the taluk, and sand smugglers have reportedly been transporting sand illegally to neighbouring taluks and even to other states. Due to these illegal operations, there is a growing concern that major bridges across the river could be endangered.

Once night falls, sand mafia groups extract sand from the river and store it in remote areas before transporting it in trucks to various taluks of the district and even to the neighbouring state of Goa. In particular, illegal sand mining is rampant in Hegde, Kodkani, Katagale, Divgi, and Manakona areas of Kumta taluk.

Across the Aghanashini River, important bridges like the Konkan Railway Bridge and the National Highway Bridge are located. Most sand extraction activities are happening near these bridge areas. As a result, various parts of the riverbank are gradually getting eroded. If this continues, the farmlands and residential houses situated along the riverbank could face severe danger. Already, in some places where sand extraction is taking place, the river has begun to encroach into agricultural lands, causing panic among riverside residents.

When local residents attempt to oppose the sand mafia, the smugglers allegedly threaten them, making villagers afraid to file complaints. Therefore, authorities must immediately identify and curb the illegal sand mining activities taking place around Kumta to prevent further damage and avoid potential disasters.
