At the iconic Eden Gardens, West Indies, batting first, put up an imposing total of 195 for 4 in their 20 overs, powered by aggressive strokeplay and late-innings acceleration.
India’s chase suffered an early wobble with the loss of wickets in the powerplay. However, a timely counter-attacking knock by Sanju Samson brought much-needed stability to the middle order and swung the momentum in India’s favour. A responsible partnership through the middle overs ensured the chase stayed on track.
In the final overs, India kept their composure to cross the finish line and seal a memorable win, triggering celebrations among the fans at the stadium and across the country.
Despite West Indies’ trademark power-hitting, India’s bowlers tightened the screws in the death overs to restrict the scoring rate. Although there were a few lapses in the field earlier in the innings, crucial catches at decisive moments proved pivotal in turning the game India’s way.
